Clinical Consultation

My consultation approach reflects the relational perspective I hold as a therapist and group leader. This orientation foregrounds the therapist’s subjectivity as the sense perception for unconscious communication. Through spontaneous interactions and their accompanying rhythms of enactment & reflection, therapist and client are able to work through patterned ways of feeling, thinking, and relating.

Inevitably, however, this process of unfoldment and discovery runs aground. Often these impasses hold as much emotional significance for the therapist as they do for the client or group. Consultation can be powerful resource for disentangling knots and reanimating treatment.

During a consultation session, mutual curiosity is brought to the full range of psychic activity (reverie, memory, feelings, sensations, wordplay, humor) in order to help reveal what might be obscured and challenge what is previously known.

Being a psychotherapist can be one of the most fulfilling and rewarding professions – provided we have ongoing support for the complexity and emotional intensity it entails.

Also, I believe we are most effective as therapists when our approach reflects our unique and singular way of being. To this end, I believe consultation works best when used as a tuning fork for locating our personal, idiosyncratic voice.

In consultation, I will collaborate with you to understand the subtle dynamics of your cases and to explore what new dimensions might further animate the treatment. Contact me below if you would be interested in exploring this option further.
